Fields in Trust held their inaugural national awards at Lord’s Cricket Ground on Thursday 29th November 2012 to celebrate and reward the achievements of local community volunteers, local authorities and organisations who have helped safeguard in perpetuity outdoor recreational space across the country.

Earlier this year, as a result of work spearheaded by the Friends of Albert Road Recreation Ground (FARRG), Albert Road Rec was chosen as a QE II field and was, therefore, able to be entered, alongside numerous other QE II fields in the country, in this inaugural event in relation to three award categories: Most Improved, Most Active and Most Loved. Albert Road Rec was declared the UK National Winner in the ‘Getting Most Active Park’ category and was the UK National Joint Runner Up in the ‘Most Loved Park’ category.

Peter Droussiotis, FARRG Chair, said: “Thanks to the combined efforts of FARRG and of our key partners, notably the Pavilion Sports & Café and Haringey Council, and the work of so many dedicated volunteers, and because of the support of the local community, which has championed this park at every opportunity, we have secured yet another important national recognition for our local park.

“This is a fantastic level of success for a relatively small park in this National competition and feels like a true reflection of the spirit and energy of all those involved. Well done to all.”

The Awards were collected by a FARRG delegation comprising Robby Sukhdeo, FARRG Events Co-ordinator and Manager of Pavilion Sports and Cafe, Gianluca Lo Iacono, FARRG Treasurer/Webmaster, Tony Healey, FARRG Committee Member and Haringey Council Parks Manager and Neil Armstrong, Haringey Council Park Keeper for the Albert Road Rec.
